ULTRAS MESSAGE BOARD
The aim of the Ultras is to try and replicate the "Wall of Sound" that is the Kop.
We have moved into the South Stand this Season to try and get the atmosphere in there back to what it was in the days
of the "Scratching Shed".
If you think you'd like to join us then check out the links on the left of the page and keep up to date with what is going
on at the Ultras message board - see link above.
The following is a post by one of the Mods that tends to sum up what we are all about:-
"The atmosphere depends on the idividual match and what is going on, on the pitch, as much as anything else. If we are
doing well and scoring its great. If we are losing then its not so great, but that is largely due to not singing and concentrating
on the events on the pitch, though when the going gets tough the crowd seem to get together and the atmosphere increases again.
The atmosphere in the Kop and at that end of the ground is generally good and therefore doesn't need any additional encouragement.
However when you look around the ground it is only that end of the ground that generates the atmosphere and noise. There
is an old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it, and this kind of applies. We could go in the Kop and continue to have the
atmosphere and noise largely generated at one end of the pitch or we could try and encourage the atmospere and have the noise
coming from the other end of the pitch too. So that is the aim/idea in general. The Ultras as a group have and are still
undergoing a period of transition. We tried it one way and it worked, but then as a group it reached a plateau and this coupled
with the constraints that the club placed upon us meant we needed to change as a group or fade out, so we changed.
The half time W A C C O E has been dropped in favour of doing it at a point within the match when everyone can join in.
The big flags are still there, though we don't wave them about any longer. The stick flags although made to specification
and ground rules were difficult to get into the ground as we had trouble from the stewards along with the confetti.
Afterall we all go to the match to support the team, not to wind up the stewards and end up with a ban from the ground
by Harry Stokey, that is not what we are about and where is the enjoyment in that. We don't buy our season tickets to have
them taken away and end up having to listen to the match from home.
It has been said before by the players that the encouragement of the fans is a good thing. If they can only hear this
when playing at one end of the pitch then this is not good enough and as fans should be able to provide that support at the
other end of the pitch to the players too. Why should we let the away support intimidate our players and encourage their
own. So as a group we moved to the South Stand and therefore are now trying to encourage the atmosphere and noise from both
ends of the ground.
We arn't an antagonistic group, you don't have to be a member to join, age is not a boundry, but if you like to sing to
support the team for 90 minutes then come and join us in the South Stand, section FA4."
